Built upon a foundation of analog synthesizers and samplers alongside a massive library of micro-samples and rapid fire sound design, ‘Second Lives’ serves as an all encompassing finale to the dark and angry electro-infused tech house that Toronto producer Frustra began releasing in 2016. Centred around propulsive rave-inspired motifs, it tells the story of a young partygoer caught up in the underbelly of a rave renaissance. Beginning with the cautious warning of “Recall” and fuelled by the tech house angst of “Acid Vision” and “Baldwin Social Club”, the album later propels itself into Justice-esque war hymn territory (“Runaway”), all-out rave weaponry (“Southbank”, “Rectify”) and 3 A.M. warehouse stompers ("Eternal Wake"). Definitely don’t listen to this one at home, it was designed for the rave.
